Overview

Wow! Invisible Hearing is made by InSound Medical and is also marketed as Lyric Extended Wear Hearing Aid^®.   This technology is different from traditional hearing aids because it is placed deep in the ear canal, millimeters from the eardrum, and stays there for months at a time.  The outer ear naturally directs sound towards the Wow! Invisible Hearing device, where sound is then amplified close to your ear drum.  Deep canal placement helps to

1. improve directionality and localization (ability to determine where sounds are coming from),
2. reduce feedback and occlusion (plugged feeling),
3. minimize background noise,
4. improve your ability to hear high frequency sounds.

Invisible Hearing.  Most traditional hearing aids are daily wear devices, so you need to put them on and take them off each day, and replace the batteries when they wear out.  You have daily reminders of your hearing loss. Once placed, Wow! Invisible Hearing is placed deep inside the ear canal, it is 100% invisible.  People cannot see Wow! Invisible Hearing in your ear, and you can talk on the phone normally because nothing is outside the ear to interfere with a phone or headset.  The invisibility that Wow! Candidacy

Extended-ear devices are best for the most common hearing loss – mild to moderate sensorineural resulting from age and/or noise exposure.  It is approved for ages 10 and above;  over 3000 patients are now using the devices on a regular basis.

Contraindications:  The unique extended-wear and deep insertion components mean this is not appropriate for everyone.  Below are some conditions that interfere with use of Extended Wear hearing devices:

• History of ear canal bleeding, surgery, or drainage.
• Prescription anticoaguluation therapy
• Non-medically managed Diabetes
• Compromised immune system: (HIV, advanced Lupus, advanced RA, etc).
• Chemotherapy within 6 months.  Head or neck radiation within 6 months.
• Severe to profound hearing loss.
